Keysight (Agilent) 81571A 60 dB Variable Optical Attenuator Module

The Agilent 81571A Variable Optical Attenuator plug-in module is an instrument that attenuates and controls the optical power level of light in single mode optical fibers. As plug-in modules for Agilent’s Lightwave Multichannel platform (8163A/B, 8164A/B, 8166A/B) they allow you to set the attenuation factor and/or power level manually, or remotely via a common computer interface. Their high accuracy combined with their flexibility make them ideal as test and measurement equipment for the modern telecommunication industry. The Agilent 81570A module features excellent wavelength flatness and can handle high input power levels. Combined with their low insertion loss, they are ideal for optical amplifer test, such as characterization of EDFAs and of Raman amplifiers, as well as for other multiwavelength applications, such as DWDM transmission system test. Specifications. Wavelength range: 1200-1700 nm. Fiber type: 9/125 µm SMF28. Attenuation range: 0-60 dB. Resolution: 0.001 dB. Repeatability: +/- 0.01 dB. Accuracy (uncertainty): +/-0.1 dB. Polarization Dependent Loss (PDL)
Polarization Dependent Loss is the difference between the maximum and minimum values of loss due to the variation of the polarization states of light propagating through a device. PDL is expressed in decibels. Calculated by; PDL = 10 log10 (Ep/Es), where EP and ES are the measured diffraction efficiencies for P- and S-plane polarized incident light, respectively.

Return Loss (RL)
Return Loss (RL) is the ratio of the incident power to the reflected power expressed in dB. RL = 10log (Pin/Pback)

Wavelength Resolution
Wavelength Resolution is the smallest possible displayed wavelength increment/decrement.
