Keysight (Agilent) 83495A Clock Recovery Plug-in Module

The Agilent 83495A is a clock recovery plug-in module for the Agilent 86100 Infiniium DCA (Digital Communications Analyzer) mainframe. When a separate trigger is not available, or when standards specify that a trigger be derived using a clock recovery unit, the 83495A can be used to obtain a timing reference directly from the signal under test. Channel Type: Single Mode (Multimode Option 101) Optical & Electrical. Clock Recovery Phase Locked Loop Bandwidth: <=100 KHz or <=4 MHz (3.5 MHz typical) user selectable (Internal Path Triggering or External Output). Data Rates (Gb/s): 9.953 to 11.32. Tracking/Acquisition Range: Continuous within data rate range. Internal Splitter: 20/80 (30/70 option 101). Output Jitter: 0.01 UI (0.007 UI typical) RMS. Input Power for Clock Recovery: -11 dBm to +1 dBm optical, 0.10 to 2.0 Vp-p electrical (-8 dBm to +1 dBm optical, 0.10 to 2.0 Vp-p electrical, option 101). Auxiliary Recovered Clock and Regenerated Data Outputs: Type N with SMA adapters (no data output). Input Return Loss: 32 dB (28 dB option 101) maximum optical, DC to 2.5 GHz, 20 dB electrical, 2.5 GHz to 11.32 GHz, 15 dB electrical. Input Insertion Loss: 2.5 dB (3.0 dB option 101) maximum optical.

Coherence Time
Average time for the wave train to lose its phase realtionships

Fiber Bragg Grating (FBG)
A fiber Bragg grating (FBG) is a type of distributed Bragg reflector constructed in a short segment of optical fiber that reflects particular wavelengths of light and transmits all others. This is achieved by adding a periodic variation to the refractive index of the fiber core, which generates a wavelength specific dielectric mirror. A fiber Bragg grating can therefore be used as an inline optical filter to block certain wavelengths, or as a wavelength-specific reflector.

Modulation
Modulation is the process by which the characteristic of one wave (the carrier) is modified by another. Adding information into pulses of light.

Power Linearity
When changing the power level and measuring the differences (in dB) between actual and displayed power levels, the power linearity is ± half the span (in dB) between the maximum and the minimum value of all differences.

Stability
Stability is the extent to which a specified property, characteristic, or parameter of a substance, device, or apparatus, such as a fiber optic transmission system, remains fixed with the passage of time or with varying environmental conditions.
