The Agilent 81672B Tunable Laser module is a back-loadable module that fits into the Agilent 8164A, 8164B Lightwave Measurement System and the Agilent 8166A, 8166B Lightwave Multichannel System. The Agilent 81672B Tunable Laser module has a built-in wavelength control loop to ensure high wavelength accuracy. As this module is all mode-hop free tunable with continuous output power, it qualifies for the test of the most critical dense-Wavelength Division Multiplexer (dWDM) components. The Agilent 81672B Tunable Laser module delivers a signal with high optical power. Specifications. Wavelength Range: 1260 nm to 1375 nm. Wavelength resolution: 0.1 pm, 17.7 MHz at 1300 nm. Mode-hop free tuning range: Full wavelength range. Max Tuning Speed: 80 nm/s. Absolute wavelength accuracy: ±10 pm. Relative wavelength accuracy: ±5 pm, typ. ±2 pm. Wavelength repeatability: ±0.08 pm, typ. ±0.5 pm. Wavelength stability: <= ±1 pm (typ. 24 hrs at constant temp.). Linewidth (typ.), coherence control off: 100 kHz. Absolute Wavelength Accuracy
Absolute Wavelength Accuracy is the maximum difference between the actual wavelength and the displayed wavelength of the Optical Source. Wavelength is defined as wavelength in vacuum.

A unit of measurement of optical power which indicates relative power. A -10 dB means a reduction in power by 10 times, -20 dB means another 10 times or 100 times overall, -30 means another 10 times or 1000 times overall and so on.

Relative Intensity Noise (RIN)
Relative intensity noise (RIN), describes the instability in the power level of a laser. The noise term is important to describe lasers used in fiber-optic communication and LIDAR remote sensing. It is the square of the (spectrally resolved) RMS optical power amplitude divided by the measurement bandwidth and the square of the average optical power, expressed in dB/Hz.

Total Return loss
In an optical fiber, the loss that takes place at any discontinuity of refractive index, especially at an air-glass interface such as a fiber endface, at which a fraction of the optical signal is reflected back toward the source. RL = - 10log10 (Preflected/Preference)
