ACTERNA ANT-20SE Advanced Network Tester Mainframe

The Acterna ANT-20SE Advanced Network Tester delivers sophisticated, precision testing that is easy to use even in the most demanding environment for all the above bit rates and for ATM. In addition comprehensive jitter/ wander measurements up to STM-16 in complete compliance with the ITU-T Rec. O.172 for comparable, insightful and accurate measurement results. The remote operation facilities, gives you the opportunity to reduce your costs e.g. operating the instrument from any windows PC via modem or Ethernet LAN. The Acterna ANT-20SE allows combination and parallel operation of all bit rates up to STM-16 with jitter/wander up to 2.5 Gbit/s and ATM in a single unit. Now also with STM-64 optical interfaces. The ANT-20SE mainframe ingludes a generator and analyzer for electrical STM-1 signals allowing; Simulation and evaluation in the SOH / POH, Generation and analysis of Anomalies and Defects and Pointer generator and analyzer. Generator and analyzer for PDH BERT at 2, 8, 34 and 140 Mbit/s with framed and unframed patters. C12 Mapping. Touchscreen, Color TFT screen 10.4", 256 colors with a Resolution of 640 x 480 pixels (VGA standard). CPU RAM extension to 32MB. 4 extension slots.

Chirp
A change in the optical frequency caused by direct modulation of the laser. A chirp is a signal in which the frequency increases ('up-chirp') or decreases ('down-chirp') with time. In some sources, the term chirp is used interchangeably with sweep signal.

A unit of measure used to measure wavelength of light, meaning one one-billionth of a meter

Singlemode Fiber
Singlemode Fiber has a small core, only about 9 microns, and is used for telephony and CATV with laser sources at 1300 and 1550 nm. It can go very long distances at very high speeds. Both multimode and singlemode fiber have an outside diameter of 125 microns - about 5 thousandths of an inch - just slightly larger than a human hair.
