NOYES OPM5-3D 850 to 1625 nm Handheld Optical Power Meter

The Noyes OPM5-3D from AFL Telecommunications is a full-featured, handheld optical power meter designed for measuring optical power in Premises, Telco, or Broadband networks and for performing insertion loss measurements on multimode or single-mode fiber optic links. The OPM5-3D features automatic wavelength identification and switching (Wave ID) when used with Noyes OLS series light sources, multiple test Tone detection for fiber identification, and stores optical references for each calibrated wavelength and up to 500 records per wavelength of power or insertion loss measurements. A large dual-wavelength LCD display with backlight shows measured power [dBm or µW] or insertion loss [dB], calibrated wavelengths [nm], tone signal [Hz], wavelength ID, and estimated remaining battery life. Specifications. Calibrated wavelengths: 850, 1300, 1310, 1490, 1550, 1625 nm. Detector type: InGaAs. Measurement range: +10 to -75 dBm. Tone detect range: +10 to -50 dBm, +10 to -45 dBm for 850 nm. Wavelength ID range: +10 to -50 dBm, +10 to -45 dBm for 850 nm. Accuracy: ± 0.25 dB. Resolution: 0.01 dB. Measurement units: dB, dBm, µW.

Chirp
A change in the optical frequency caused by direct modulation of the laser. A chirp is a signal in which the frequency increases ('up-chirp') or decreases ('down-chirp') with time. In some sources, the term chirp is used interchangeably with sweep signal.

Isolation
The extent to which optical power from one signal path is prevented from reaching another signal path.

Polarization Extinction Ratio
Polarization Extinction Ratio is the ratio of optical power in the slow axis of the polarization maintaining fiber to optical power in the fast axis within a specified wavelength range.

Sidemode Suppression Ratio
Sidemode Suppression Ratio is the ratio of average signal power to the optical power of the highest sidemode within a distance from 0.1 to 6 GHz to the signal’s optical frequency, expressed in dB.

Wavelength Stability
Wavelength Stability is the change of wavelength during given time span, expressed as ± half the span between the maximum and the minimum of all actual wavelengths.
