Keysight (Agilent) E8257N 40 GHz PSG Analog Sweep Generator

The Agilent E8257N is a fully-synthesized signal generator with high output power, low phase noise, and optional ramp sweep capability. Specifications. Frequency Range: 10 MHz to 40 GHz, 250 kHz to 40 GHz (Option 340), 250 kHz to 50 GHz (Option 550). Frequency Resolution: 0.001 Hz (CW), 0.01 Hz (All sweep modes). CW switching speed: < 11 ms (typ), 7 ms (nom). Phase offset: Adjustable in nominal 0.1° increments. Accuracy: ± [(time since last adjustment x aging rate) + temperature effects + line voltage effects + calibration accuracy]. External reference frequency: 10 MHz only. External reference lock range: ±1.0 ppm. Reference output frequency: 10 MHz. Reference output amplitude: > +4 dBm into 50 ohm load (typ). External reference input amplitude: 5 dBm ±5 dB. External reference input impedance: 50 ohm (nom). Step (digital) sweep; Operating modes Standard and Option 340: Step sweep of frequency or amplitude or both (start to stop), Option 340 only; List sweep of frequency or amplitude or both (arbitrary list). Frequency sweep: Within instrument frequency range. Dwell time: 1 ms to 60 s. Step sweep (Number of points): 2 to 65535. List sweep (Option 340 only): 2 to 1601 per table. Available Gain
Available Gain is the ratio, at a specific frequency, of power available from the output to the power in from the source.

Decibel (dB)
A unit of measurement of power which indicates relative power. A -10 dB means a reduction in power by 10 times, -20 dB means another 10 times or 100 times overall, -30 means another 10 times or 1000 times overall and so on.

Mismatch Uncertainty
Mismatch Uncertainty is caused by re-reflections between one device (the source) and the device that follows it (the load).

Pulse Power
Pulse Power, the energy transfer rate is averaged over the pulse width. Pulse width is considered to be the time between the 50 percent risetime/falltime amplitude points. Pulse power averages out any aberrations in the pulse envelope such as overshoot or ringing.
