Keysight (Agilent) J7230B   Description / Specification:
Keysight (Agilent) J7230B OmniBER OTN Communications Performance Analyzer

The Agilent J7230B OmniBER OTN 10 Gb/s analyzer offers comprehensive error, alarm and overhead testing for both next generation data over SONET/SDH, and G.709 optical channel, devices and equipment at rates up to 10.71 Gb/s. The independent verification of Multi Service Switching Platforms (MSSPs) and Multi Service Provisioning Platforms (MSPPs) against new industry standards provides greater confidence of interoperability with other vendors' equipment, and speeds time to market. Important features are: next generation SONET/SDH Ethernet payload mapping simulation and analysis; next generation SONET/SDH GFP (G.7041) and LAPS (X.86) encapsulation simulation and analysis; next generation SONET/SDH (high and low order) Virtual Concatenation and LCAS (G.7042) simulation and analysis, including full differential delay generation and measurement to 256ms as per ITU-T G.707; comprehensive SONET/SDH contiguous concatenation support; encapsulation analyzer provides detailed view and capture of client data for resolving complex or intermittent problems; simultaneous BER and alarm monitoring of all SONET/SDH STS/AU channels ("Signal Wizard"); SONET/SDH APS service disruption measurements; and ITU-T G.709 OTU2 optical channel support including Forward Error Correction (FEC) simulation and analysis wiht OTU frame capture.

Data Rate
Data Rate is the maximum number of bits of information which can be transmitted per second, as in a data transmission link. Typically expressed as megabits per second (Mbps).

Optical Signal-to-noise Ratio (OSNR)
Optical Signal-to-noise ratio is the ratio between the signal power and the noise power in a given bandwidth. Most commonly a reference bandwidth of 0.1 nm is used. This bandwidth is independent from the modulation format, the frequency and the receiver. For instance a OSNR of 20dB/0.1nm could be given, even the signal of 40 GBit DPSK would not fit in this bandwidth. OSNR is measured with a Optical Spectrum Analyzer. It is generally measured at the wavelength of interest.

SONET
Synchronous Optical NETwork (SONET) is a fiber-optic transmission system for high-speed digital traffic. Employed by telephone companies and common carriers, speeds range from 51 Mbps to 40 Gbps. SONET is an intelligent system that provides advanced network management and a standard optical interface. Specified in the Broadband ISDN (B-ISDN) standard, SONET backbones are widely used to aggregate T1 and T3 lines. The European counterpart to SONET is the Synchronous Digital Hierarchy, and the term "SONET/SDH" is widely used when referring to SONET
