   NEWPORT 6505   Description / Specification:
NEWPORT 6505 500 mA Laser Diode Driver Module

The Newport 6505 Laser Diode Driver Module is designed for use in communication applications and have an internal function generator for testing systems. The user only needs to program the frequency, Imax, and Imin to modulate the laser diode output. Both sinewave or squarewave (50% duty cycle) waveforms are available from 200 Hz–300 kHz. This range of frequencies meets today’s low frequency single tone and high data rate test requirements for datacom and telecom. An external analog modulation input allows precision control of the laser output for a variety of applications. Modulation is available in both constant current (ACC) and constant power (APC) modes. A monitor photodiode may be zero biased for CW low noise applications or reversed biased up to 5 V for high frequency modulation. Specifications. Output Current Range: 0 to 500 mA. Output Current Resolution: 0.0076 mA. Output Current Accuracy: ±(0.03% + 15 µA). Compliance Voltage: 7 V. Temperature Coefficient (ppm FS/°C): <50. Short-Term Stability (1 h) (ppm FS): <10.0. Long-Term Stability (24 h) (ppm FS): <50. Noise/Ripple (rms) Hi BW: < 8.0 µA. Noise/Ripple (rms) Lo BW: < 4.0 µA. Current Limit Range: 0 to 500 mA. Resolution: 1 mA. Accuracy: ±2 mA. Internal Function Generator Waveforms: Sinewave, Squarewave. Internal Function Generator Frequency Range: 200 Hz to 300 kHz.

*This is a Web introductory price for one calibration of the NEWPORT 6505. Price does not in most cases include measurement performance data. Pricing does include NIST traceable calibration and issue of a calibration certificate and calibration label. Pricing may vary slightly due to volume and location of laboratory supporting calibration. Volume pricing may apply. On-site fees may apply depending on logistics, location and volume of work to be completed during the visit.

Related Optical Terms and Definitions. For a complete list go to our  Terms and Definitions Page.

Chirp
A change in the optical frequency caused by direct modulation of the laser. A chirp is a signal in which the frequency increases ('up-chirp') or decreases ('down-chirp') with time. In some sources, the term chirp is used interchangeably with sweep signal.

Isolation
The extent to which optical power from one signal path is prevented from reaching another signal path.

Polarization Extinction Ratio
Polarization Extinction Ratio is the ratio of optical power in the slow axis of the polarization maintaining fiber to optical power in the fast axis within a specified wavelength range.

Sidemode Suppression Ratio
Sidemode Suppression Ratio is the ratio of average signal power to the optical power of the highest sidemode within a distance from 0.1 to 6 GHz to the signal’s optical frequency, expressed in dB.

Wavelength Stability
Wavelength Stability is the change of wavelength during given time span, expressed as ± half the span between the maximum and the minimum of all actual wavelengths.
