   EXFO IQ-3100-B89   Description / Specification:
EXFO IQ-3100-B89 100 dB SM Variable Attenuator Module

The Exfo IQ-3100-B89 Variable Attenuator is a flexible and fully programmable module. Choose from three attenuation modes: absolute, relative and X+B. Cycle through a repeatable sequence of up to 100 attenuation steps, with a dwell time of up to 1000 hours per step. The IQ-3100-B89 maintains an attenuation value within ± 0.1 dB throughout the complete WDM spectrum, simultaneously for all channels from 1520 nm to 1570 nm. Attenuation from minimum insertion loss (typically 1.5 dB) to 100 dB according to operating wavelength and recurring attenuation (± 0.03 dB) each time you select a specific setting at a specific wavelength. Specifications. Fiber type: 9/125 µm. Wavelength range: 1200 to 1650 nm. Wavelength resolution: 0.1 nm. Max. attenuation: >= 100 dB (1200 nm to 1350 nm), >= 80 dB (1350 nm to 1600 nm), 70 dB (1600 nm to 1650 nm). Insertion loss Maximum: 1.8 dB. Resolution: 0.005 dB. Linearity: ± 0.1 dB. Max. repeatability: ± 0.03 dB. Typ. return loss: >= 55 db. Max. input power: 25 dBm. Connector: FC narrow key.

Absolute Wavelength Accuracy
Absolute Wavelength Accuracy is the maximum difference between the actual wavelength and the displayed wavelength of the Optical Source. Wavelength is defined as wavelength in vacuum.

Decibel (dB)
A unit of measurement of optical power which indicates relative power. A -10 dB means a reduction in power by 10 times, -20 dB means another 10 times or 100 times overall, -30 means another 10 times or 1000 times overall and so on.

Nanometer (nm)
A unit of measure used to measure wavelength of light, meaning one one-billionth of a meter

Relative Intensity Noise (RIN)
Relative intensity noise (RIN), describes the instability in the power level of a laser. The noise term is important to describe lasers used in fiber-optic communication and LIDAR remote sensing. It is the square of the (spectrally resolved) RMS optical power amplitude divided by the measurement bandwidth and the square of the average optical power, expressed in dB/Hz.

Total Return loss
In an optical fiber, the loss that takes place at any discontinuity of refractive index, especially at an air-glass interface such as a fiber endface, at which a fraction of the optical signal is reflected back toward the source. RL = - 10log10 (Preflected/Preference)
