JDSU OLT-55 Optical Loss Test Set

The JDSU OLT-55 SMART Optical Loss Test Set is a universal instrument combining a light source and a power meter in a single unit for singlemode fibers from lab through to installation, maintenance and troubleshooting. Versions available include; FTTx version (1310/1550nm, 1310/1490/1550nm and 1310/1550/1625nm). Loss at up to 3 wavelengths measured and displayed simultaneously. Independent quick referencing for all built-in wavelengths while the instrument is in measurement mode by connecting the source and power meter via a patch fiber cable. It can be used as a standalone power meter or laser source with all the features of the OLS-55 SMART Optical Light Source and the OLP-55 SMART Optical Power Meter. Built-in auto-zeroing for very low power levels or high loss measurements. Built-in USB interface for easy remote control & report generation. Options include Visual Fault Locator, Host USB data storage. The JDSU OLT-55 SMART Optical Loss Test Set is used for testing optical signals and systems including broadband, PONs and Gigabit Ethernet. And for singlemode fibers in a lab environment, manufacturing (USB interface), installation, maintenance and troubleshooting.

Average Power
Average power means that the energy transfer rate is to be averaged over many periods of the lowest frequency involved. For a CW signal, the lowest frequency and highest frequency are the same, so average power and power are the same. For an amplitude modulated wave, the power must be averaged over many periods of the modulation component of the signal as well.

Harmonic
A harmonic of a wave is a component frequency of the signal that is an integer multiple of the fundamental frequency, i.e. if the fundamental frequency is f, the harmonics have frequencies 2f, 3f, 4f, . . . etc.

Phase Noise
Phase noise is the frequency domain representation of rapid, short-term, random fluctuations in the phase of a waveform, caused by time domain instabilities. Phase noise (L(f)) is typically expressed in units of dBc/Hz, representing the noise power relative to the carrier contained in a 1 Hz bandwidth centered at a certain offsets from the carrier.
