Keysight (Agilent) 5221A Electronic Counter

The HP 5221A Electronic Counter measures frequencies from 5 Hz to 10 MHz. The counter provides these features: blanking of unwanted zeros in the display, display storage that holds the display while the new count is being made, and remote gate control throught BNC connector on the rear panel. The counter also features a solid state design incorporating HP integrated circuits. The counter can measure speed, rpm, rps, and count events occuring within selected periods of time. With transducers converting mechanical to electrical phenomena, weight, pressure, temperature, acceleration and other qualities can be measured. The 5221A has a maximum sensitivity is 0.1 V, an impedance of 1 M-Ohm/50pF, and an accuracy of ±1 count ± power line frequency accuracy. The HP 5221A and 5321A are similar, but differ in size and shape.

Carrier Wave (CW)
Carrier Wave or Continuous Wave is a sinusoidal signal without modulation.

Harmonic
A harmonic of a wave is a component frequency of the signal that is an integer multiple of the fundamental frequency, i.e. if the fundamental frequency is f, the harmonics have frequencies 2f, 3f, 4f, . . . etc.

Noise Floor
Noise floor is the measure of the signal created from the sum of all the noise sources and unwanted signals within a measurement system.

Ripple
Ripple is the small unwanted residual periodic variation of the direct current (dc) output
