The Agilent 8601A is a signal generator with some of the capabilities of a sweeper. With selectable high and low ranges (0.1-11 MHz in low, 1-110 MHz high), it covers a frequency range from 100 kHz to 110 MHz with an accuracy of approximately +/-1% of set frequency. Its power output level range from +20 to -110 dBm, with the ability to make 10-dB steps with a 13-dB vernier which provide continuous settings over the entire range. The meter monitors the output in dBm and Vrms into 50 ohms. The output power level accuracy is +/-1 dB for any output level from +13 dBm to -110 dBm, with level flatness of +/-0.25 dB over the entire range and +/-0.1 dB over any 10 MHz portion (+10 dBm step or below). With an impedance of 50 ohms the SWR is <1.2 on 0 dBm step and below. With CW frequency over 250 kHz and at output levels below +10 dBm, harmonics are at least 35 dB below the carrier and spurious signals are at least 40 dB below the carrier. In a 20 kHz bandwidth including line components, there is <50 Hz rms of residual FM in CW mode in low range and <500 Hz rms in high range; in SYM 0, sweep mode, <100 Hz rms in low range, and <1 kHz rms in high range. The AM noise modulation index (rms, 10 kHz bandwidth) is <-50 dB; (typically -60 dB at 25 degrees C. The model 8601A allows for calibration of its internal 5 MHz oscillator to +/-0.01% at any multiple of 5 MHz. It features 3 sweep modes inlcuding full, video and symmetrical. Its internal AM is fixed at 30% +/-5% at 1 kHz; external AM can range from 0 to 50% and dc to 400 Hz or 0 to 30% and up to 1 kHz. Internal FM: 1 kHz rate, fixed 75 kHz +/-5%, deviation, high range; 7.5 kHz +/-5%, deviation, low range; <3% distortion. External FM sensetivity is 5 MHz per volt +/-5% on high range and 0.5 MHz per volt +/-5% on low range with negative polarity and to FM rates of 10 kHz.
