Keysight (Agilent) 86108A Precision Waveform Analyzer Plug-in Module

The Agilent 86108A Precision Waveform Analyzer is a plug-in module used with the 86100C Infiniium DCA-J Digital Communications Analyzer that provides an ideal solution to this accuracy problem. The 86108A has a bandwidth in excess of 33 GHz, channel noise of less than 300 uV, and residual jitter at an astounding level of under 100 femtoseconds (60 fs typical). Bandwidth: 16 GHz and < 32 GHz, (35 GHz). Transition time (10% to 90% calculated from Tr = 0.35/BW): 10 ps. RMS noise (Characteristic): 240 uV (16 GHz) 420 uV (32 GHz). DC accuracy (single marker): ±0.7% of full scale, ±2 mV ±1.5% (16 GHz), (±3% 32 GHz) of (reading-channel offset). CW offset range (referenced from center of screen): ±500 mV. Input dynamic range (relative to channel offset): ±400 mV. Maximum input signal: ±2 V (+16 dBm). Refl ections (for 30 ps rise time): 5%. Clock Recovery; Data rates input range: Continuous tuning 0.05 to 13.5 Gb/s. Clock frequency input range: Continuous tuning 0.025 to 6.75 GHz. Minimum input level to aquire lock: 175 m Vpp. Minimum input level to aquire lock and achieve jitter specifications: 125 m Vpp. Clock recovery adjustable loop bandwidth range (user selectable): 0.015 to 10 MHz. Loop bandwidth accuracy: ±30%. Aquisition range: ±5000 ppm. Residual spread spectrum: -72 ±3 dB @ 33 kHz. Internal frequency counter accuracy: ±10 ppm.

Peak Envelope Power
Peak envelope power is the maximum value of the envelope power. Envelope power is measured by making the averaging time much less than 1/fm where fm is the maximum frequency component of the modulation waveform. The averaging time is therefore limited on both ends: (1) it must be small compared to the period of the highest modulation frequency, and (2) it must be large enough to be many RF cycles long.
