BURLEIGH WA-7100 Optical Channel Analyzer

Burleigh WA-7100 Optical Channel Analyzer uses Michelson interferometer-based WAVEMETER technology to determine the absolute wavelength of an optical signal under test by comparing its interference fringe pattern with that of a built-in HeNe laser wavelength standard. Wavelength Range: 1270 to 1680 nm (178 to 236 THz). Wavelength Absolute accuracy (3 sigma): ± 1.5 pm. Wavelength Minimum resolvable separation: 30 pm. Wavelength Display resolution: 0.001 nm. Power Absolute accuracy (2 sigma): ± 0.5 dB (at ± 30 nm from 1310 and 1550 nm). Power Linearity: ± 0.3 dB. Power Display resolution: 0.01 dB. Optical Input Signal Sensitivity, single line input: -40 dBm (0.1 µW), 1270 - 1600 nm; -30 dBm (1.0 µW), 1600 - 1680 nm. Maximum input level (sum of all lines): + 10 dBm (10 mW). Optical Dynamic Range Signal-to noise ratio (lines above -25 dBm): > 35 dB, channel spacing = 100 GHz; > 27 dB, channel spacing = 50 GHz. Number of Laser Lines Input: Maximum 256. Multimode Fiber
Multimode Fiber has a large core (almost always 62.5 microns - a micron is one one millionth of a meter - but sometimes 50 microns) and is used with LED sources at wavelengths of 850 and 1300 nm for short distance, lower speed networks like LANs. Both multimode and singlemode fiber have an outside diameter of 125 microns - about 5 thousandths of an inch - just slightly larger than a human hair.

Power Repeatability is the random uncertainty in reproducing the power level after changing and re-setting the power level. The power repeatability is ± half the span (in dB) between the highest and lowest actual power. Note: - The long-term power repeatability can be obtained by taken the power repeatability and power stability into account.
